Don’t be concerned about a little ice on your exhaust pipes

Living in Minnesota has its fun but the cold has officially gotten old and it’s only January 2nd.  Ice is always a hazard when it comes to winter- especially when it involves pipes. But when should icy exhaust pipes become a concern?

High efficiency furnaces have a lot of moisture mixed with the exhaust.  Icicles form when the exhaust hits the cold outside air.  This isn’t something to worry about—as long as the pipe doesn’t become blocked by the ice.

Icy Exhaust Pipes: When to worry

Check exterior pipes periodically in the Winter.  If pipes become completely blocked with ice, they can’t exhaust property and a carbon monoxide buildup could occur in the house.
